From 1987 until 2000, the Vancouver 86ers kept pro soccer’s seat warm in British Columbia in between the original and modern day editions of the Vancouver Whitecaps.
According to NASL era Whitecaps coach and 86ers founder Tony Waiters, the club’s name represented the year of the team’s founding, Expo ’86, and the 86 local supporters who invested $500 each to get the club up and running.
