Rochester Skeeters

The Rochester Skeeters were a Minnesota-based minor league hoops outfit that played two International Basketball Association (IBA) seasons at the Mayo Civic Center between 1998 and 2000. The IBA was a low-budget league that operated primarily in the Upper Midwest and Western Canada. The Skeeters left town after two seasons, moving to Salina, Kansas during the summer of 2000.

The Rochester Flyers posted losing seasons in both years of operation, including a last place 16-38 record in the Continental Basketball Association season during the 1988-89 season. The team moved to Omaha, Nebraska following that last place campaign.

We’re talking Rochester, Minnesota – not New York – for this early Nineties minor league hoops entry from the Continental Basketball Association. This was the CBA’s second go-round at Rochester’s Mayo Civic Center, following the equally short-lived Flyers (1987-1989). The Renegade were notable mainly for posting the worst record (6-50) in the long history of the CBA during their debut season in 1993-94. Rochester’s second season saw the addition of an ‘s’ to the team’s name and a remarkable change in fortune on the court as the team improved to 31-25 under former Minnesota T-Wolves chief Bill Musselman.
