Cocoa Astros (1965-1972)

The Cocoa Astros were a Brevard County, Florida farm club of the National League’s Houston Astros from 1965 through 1972. Cocoa Stadium also played host to Houston’s spring training operations from 1964 until 1984. Cocoa produced several top stars of the 1970’s including Don Wilson, Bob Watson, Cesar Cedeno and J.R Richard.

Amarillo Sonics

The Amarillo Sonics were a Class AA farm team of the Houston Astros that played in the Texas League from 1965 until 1967. The Sonics replaced the recently departed Amarillo Gold Sox on the local sporting scene. During their three season run, the Sonics produced two Texas League Players of the Year: outfielder Leo Posada (1965) and outfielder/first baseman Nate Colbert (1967).

Houston Apollos Central Hockey League

Houston Apollos (1965-1969)

The original Houston Apollos hockey team was a minor league farm club of the Montreal Canadiens during the late 1960’s. The Apollos, who skated at the Sam Houston Coliseum, were members of the Central Hockey League, playing teams from across the deep south and the lower great plains states. Though the team lasted only four seasons, the Apollos helped to develop four future Hockey Hall of Famers: Tony Esposito, Pat Quinn, Serge Savard & Rogie Vachon. A re-booted version of the Apollos returned to the CHL from 1979 to 1981.
