Seattle Seadogs Continental Indoor Soccer League

Seattle SeaDogs

The Seattle SeaDogs played three seasons in the Continental Indoor Soccer League between 1993 and 1997. The CISL was a summertime league that attracted investment from a number of NBA franchise owners.  The SeaDogs were backed by Seattle Sonics owner and billboard magnate Barry Ackerley. After two seasons of mediocrity, the SeaDogs won the final CISL championship in 1997. But the league closed its doors in December 1997 before the Seattleites could defend their title.

Seattle Smashers International Volleyball Association

Seattle Smashers

The Seattle Smashers were a co-ed professional volleyball team from the International Volleyball Association. The team played at Seattle Center Arena for two seasons during the summers of 1978 and 1979. The team featured world-class volleyball stars such as Polish Olympians Stan Gosciniak and Ed Skorek and Americans Jeff Reddan and Lisa Fernandez. Retired basketball superstar Wilt Chamberlain also suited up as a member of the Smashers for a single match at Seattle Center Arena in June 1978. The franchise disbanded in 1980.
