Fun fact: despite its misleading name, this five-season entry in the Class AA Texas League during the mid-1970’s was not really a farm club of the Milwaukee Brewers. OK, so that’s not quite 100% true.  San Antonio was a Milwaukee farm team for one season during the summer of 1972. To commemorate the new Player Development Contract with Milwaukee, San Antonio dropped its long-time local nickname – the ‘Missions’ – to become the Brewers that year. But Milwaukee pulled out after just one season and the team’s local owners didn’t bother to update the name … for the next four years!

The San Antonio Dodgers were the Class AA Texas League affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers for eleven years during an era when L.A. had one of the richest farm systems in the Major Leagues. Future stars who came up through V.J. Keefe Stadium during the Dodgers years included Fernando Valenzuela, Orel Hershiser, Bob Welch, Steve Sax and Dave Stewart.

The San Antonio Tejanos were a failed independent baseball franchise that played during the 1994 debut season of the now-defunct Texas-Louisiana League (1994-2001).  The Tex-La league played mostly in older, outmoded ballparks in small cities left behind over the years by the Class AA Texas League.  Places like Alexandria, Amarillo and Beaumont. The Tejanos were an exception to this model. But not in a good way.
